Coming into the draft I knew I wouldn't get many if any immediate impact players so for me it was all about building for the future
Believe the Hype
2:5 - Nate Davis, qb, 49'ers: I believe in a few year's time when we look back at the 2009 NFL draft davis will be considered the steal of the draft. I was really impressed by him when I watched the colllege all-star skills competion and although there were concerns about his size he came in at the combine as 6'2" 226lbs which is slightly bigger than matthew stafford who was being touted as a big qb. Davis has a learning disability so it'll take some time for him to pick up a NFL playbook and some ppl fear he'll never be able to pick up a playbook. I just hope san fran shows some patience with him and doesn't go after one of the big three qb's coming out next year
5:6 Arian Foster, rb, houston - He's not flashy but at 6', 231lbs he's the perfect complement to steve slaton. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried that the texans also signed another big rb in jeremiah johnson but I think foster is more talented and will win the #2 rb job
6:3, Deon Butler, wr, seattle - A bit on the small side, however if deion branch continues to struggle with injuries butler can become the speed wr that seattle needs
6:12 Devin Moore, rb, seattle - Definitely too small to be their featured rb but he is very fast and athletic and can make a nice impact for the seahawks. Of all my picks moore is the one I expect to have the most immediate value
6:13 (traded away the 6:6 for this pick as well as 7:5 and 7:11) Mike Wallace, wr, pitt: Another very athletic and fast player who IMO can immediately fill the steeler's #3 wr slot. Plus hines ward is 33 so there is a chance for wallace to move up to the #2 job in the future
7:5 (Obtained this pick as well as 6:13 and 7:11 in exchange for 6:6) Ian Johnson, rb, minnesota: He's a walking ER but when healthy he's very productive, speedy rb. Chester taylor is 29 and in his final year of his contract with the vikes and johnson would make the perfect complement to AD as a third down/pass catching rb
7:6 Michael Hamlin, s, dallas - I believe in a strong defensive backfeld and hamlin is in a great situation. I'll admit there were other safties I would've prefered but most ff sites I saw had hamliin ranked as being around a top five safety in this year's class so he represented good value for me
7:11 Marlon Luckey, rb, cincy - I'm not sold on benson and although bernard scott is talented he has a problem staying out of trouble. Luckey is a versatile rb and very good at catching passes out of the backfield. I can't say he'll beat out benson but I feel good at his becoming a quality #2 rb for the bengals
