In a league that I commish I am considering changing the way we draft from a regular snake draft to an auction. What are the pros and cons of an auction and if I do change it what are some things I need to worry about and watch for? I personally like the idea but I'm getting mixed reviews from the other owners. How much longer will the draft take? Will it help if I drop roster sizes from 15 to 12 players?
Ideas and feedback are welcome!

Well, dropping the roster size will help speed the draft, but it may affect play in-season. (obvious, eh?) The auction will cause owners to have a totally different approach to building a team. You have to set a salary cap limit so that everyone can field a complete team. For example, a team decides to spend only the minimum amount on 11 of their 12 players, so they can get Ladanian Tomlinson at all costs. If you can get a site to keep track of that stuff for you, you're much better off. Each owner must set his/her own limits they want to spend for certain positions, etc. Self-control is of utmost importance. It's kinda like a buffet...the guy that heaps one type of food on his plate will suffer the consequences, especially if that is the only plate he gets. My strategy in that type of game, is to get a nice-sized helping of each of the major food groups.
